Blancpain 1161 Villeret Automatic Ref 1161-1418-55
Blancpain 1161 Villeret Automatic Ref 1161-1418-55
The opening I write for the Ref. 7002’s I’ve sold talks about how they’re a leading candidate for watches that feel like a lot more watch than the price would suggest. I whole heartedly believe that, which makes this reference 1161 in 18K yellow gold with a 100-hour power reserve ultra thin automatic movement even more impassive since it’s priced well below its stainless steel ref 7002 cousins. Still the perfect size and proportions, still the platonic ideal dial layout with the mirror polished Breguet numerals, and still totally slept on.
Case: The 36 mm case is just under 9 mm thick and measures approximately 40.5 mm lug to lug with 19mm lug width. This case has an excellent size and presence that works beautifully on a variety of wrist shapes an sizes, and appears larger with the wide lug spacing, stepped bezel, and expansive dial. The solid 18 carat yellow gold case has a real richness and warmth almost closer to a rose gold and is believed to be unpolished, prominently displaying all its original geometry, finishing, and hallmarks. There are a few slight surface scratches visible in photos that are very faint, if visible at all, in person, and there is some slight patina present where the 11 o’clock lug meets the case.
Dial: The original matte white dial with mirror polished applied Breguet numerals set neatly in a slightly sunken hour track, providing depth and dimension to the dial, is clean and free of any imperfections with matching original handset with lume fully intact and free from any cracking.
Movement: The Frederic Piguet base caliber is an thin automatic winding with quickset date movement that has been absolutely souped up with a 100-hour power reserve! The watch is winding, setting, and changing date perfectly, and running ±1 s/d averaged across 6 positions.
Includes: Generic black leather strap and original signed pin buckle in matching 18K gold, as well as the gold curved 19mm spring bars.
