Case: One of just 2,070 reference 5548/25548 in yellow gold, with the “early case” (caseback, pushers, and hallmark) and correct “C” serial aligning with the 25548 reference, 1987 date on the insert, the moon phase calendars from 1987 through 1995, and “SWISS MADE” dial configuration. The case appears to be unpolished with exceptional lug and finish definition, highlighted by the horizontally brushed mid-case band and vertically brushed side profile of the lugs. All hallmarks and engravings are extremely sharp and well defined. The case measures 36 × 37.5 × 7.5 mm.

Dial: The white lacquer dial exhibits a depth and richness of finish that is impossible to serve justice in photos. The dial is free from any spidering or cracking, clean throughout with rich deep blue calendar indicators and high polished hands and faceted hour markers.

Movement: The ultra-thin caliber 2120/2800 automatic perpetual calendar movement is winding, running, and setting smoothly with day, date, month, and moon phase apertures advancing crisply at midnight.

Includes: Fabric wrapped and stamped outer box, leather tri-fold inner “box”, 18-carat gold push pin, brand new AP signed alligator strap with 18-carat gold buckle, German card indicating a January 1987 sale, moon phase calendars for 1987 through 1995, and the original leather documents holder and manual.

This watch is in truly exceptional, collector’s grade condition, particularly given the additional accessories. Besides the condition, historical importance, and very full list of accessories, the watch is achingly beautiful as an object. The double stepped bezel 36mm case wears very well across most wrists due to the prominent dial and relatively short, downturned lugs. It’s about as clean is it get for any complicated watch, much less a perpetual calendar.
